Electrifying is messy. And fun.

My Next Electric is a community of curious people figuring out the why, when and how of replacing gas machines with electric alternatives that work better and save you more and more money the longer you use them. This is a diverse group of people from all walks of life, sharing their struggles and wins on a very new, sometimes uncomfortable, journey. If you pay someone for gas, you’re welcome here.

Plan for messy. Get on with the fun.

Doing a new thing can be hard, but it gets easier when that new thing’s fun and good for you. Electrifying’s both, so we’re obsessed with putting the fun in electrifuncation. :|

Start with WHY: Learn just enough about electric motors, inverters and renewable fuels to be dangerous.
One simple rule: Commit to this: “My Next ___ will be electric.” Plan accordingly.
Giggle now: While we wait for our gas stuff to break down, we take lots of fun, baby steps that help us get smarter about electric.
Go together: Sharing the journey means better decisions and more fun. So we share good and bad as we go.

Our September Crash Course

Live Sessions (Central US)

We’ll meet up as a full cohort for our first and last session, but you’ll have the flexibility to go at your own pace in between.

Pre-Game Sesh 5-6 PM, Monday Sept 12 All-team Opener 5-6PM, Wednesday, Sept 14 Wednesday Work Sessions, 5-6 PM on Sept 21, 28, Oct 5 Thursday Office Hours 12-1 PM on Sept 16, 23, 30, Oct 7 All-team Graduation Unconference 11AM-12PM on Saturday, Oct 8

What you’ll do

Establish a personal infrastructure baseline

In our opening session, you’ll build a baseline for where you are right now in the journey to switch your personal infrastructure from gas to electric, especially your vehicles, appliances and your home.

Make a multi-year plan for electrifying your stuff

As we move through the first week, you’ll use our super fancy very basic survey tool to get an detailed inventory of your stuff. Then you’ll start mapping out how old and (in)efficient each thing is, so we can order the next steps in your journey, including decisions on waiting til something breaks, replacing before that happens, and even not replacing things you may not need in the future.

Weekly progress checks

You’ll get tons of feedback on what to do next. Maybe a vehicle, maybe solar, maybe efficiency work, but you’ll get help from me (Matt), others in the cohort, and alumni - in LIVE office hours, in discord, and via voice/text messages.

Your next big step underway by the end of the month

Depending on your budget, you’ll be well on your way to completing your next big electric step (new appliance, new vehicle, design solar install) before the month’s over.

Take as many fun, baby steps as you can

Whether you’re borrowing from our lending library, renting or test-driving, or even buying something portable, we want you to start using electric stuff now. This helps you understand things like kilowatts, amps, Btus and miles/kilowatt hour. You won’t get a PhD here - just enough to live with this stuff in your increasingly electrified life.

Graduation Celebration - The My Next Electric UnConference

At the end of the month, we’ll celebrate what we’ve learned and tried together, in one of the most popular sessions we run - an Unconference, where we’ll create an agenda in real-time that includes show and tell and celebration with the whole cohort!

The cohort provides you with information and ideas--on a very basic level--that show how each of us can start the process toward reducing our own carbon footprint--and how easy it is and how fun it can be.

This was super fun and engaging. I feel sort of knocked over the head about the importance of making this fun and getting likeminded people together to talk.
