For e-books, Amazon paid the publisher 50 percent of the list price of the print version but then sold the e-book for $9.99. So, if the price of a standard hardcover at the time was $25.00, and Amazon paid the publisher $12.50, the company actually lost $2.51 on each e-book sold.
